We encourage everyone to ADOPT a dog, because there is an overabundance of homeless dogs in shelters and rescue groups. We recommend working with a shelter or rescue group that can help you choose a dog that is at least one year old that already has these characteristics:
You are a step ahead if you can adopt a dog who already has these qualities!
If you already have a dog (or if you adopt a puppy) you can train these characteristics by working with a behaviorist or professional dog trainer. Any dog can learn to be a star!
Train your dog to competition level in whatever sport your dog loves the most. Agility, Dock Diving, Freestyle Dance, Disc Dog, Flyball, and Trick training.
When you compete in dog sports, your dog will get used to traveling to new places, meeting new people, and performing in a new environment with new distractions. Earning titles and ribbons is a fun way to track your progress from beginner to advanced levels.
Be sure to get some photos and videos of your dog competing, so we can see your dog in action!
Find out when The Canine Stars will be at an event near you, by joining our email newsletter, checking our calendar, or on Facebook events.
If we don’t have anything scheduled near you, contact your local Fair or Expo and let them know you’d like to see us perform there!
Let us know in advance that you’d like to come to the show and audition with your dog(s), and send us videos of your dog in action. Usually we can schedule one or two new trainers to audition at each event, and maybe even perform in a show!
Q. How old do I have to be?
A. Any age. If you’re under 18 then you must have a parent or guardian onsite with you.
Q. How old does my dog have to be?
A. At least one year old. Due to the high-impact nature of extreme dog sports, it is not safe for puppies to perform (except in our puppy segments of the shows).
Q. What breeds are allowed?
A. We prefer mix breeds and dogs from shelters, but any dog with any background can be a Canine Star! If you bought your current dog from a breeder, please consider adopting your next dog. If you prefer a specific breed, contact a rescue group who specializes in that breed – they will help you find a dog to adopt.
Q. Does my dog have to be spayed or neutered, and current on vaccinations?
A. Yes. There may be specific requirements for each country, state, province, county, or city that we perform in. Check with us for details.
Q. Do I get paid?
A. No, The Canine Stars does not hire employees. Trainers perform in shows on a volunteer basis. While on tour, all expenses may be covered for our volunteers. Our full-time tour trainers are independent contractors who run their own professional dog training businesses with insurance and USDA licenses.
Q. Who do I contact to get involved?
A. Visit us at a show in your area, or email us at Info@TheCanineStars.com
